Why don't we put in a few lines about for what we are using Netrexx.
In my company we've used Netrexx with RMI and JDBC to connect a web-server to a
background (hidden server) and to som job-scheduling. The Netrexx redbook has
been very useful with good examples for RMI, JDBC, Threads and other topics.
As a rexx programmer, I'm very pleased with this product. Thanks to Mike.
To add some more NetRexx-related stuff here, here's a copy of an email I
got from Mike himself about legal questions concerning adding
NetRexxC.zip to a distribution.
I want to distribute a program I've wrote under the GPL-license. It is
written completely in Netrexx and uses the NetRexx-runtime
Here are my questions:
1.) Is it legal to include a copy of NetRexxR.zip in the package I want
2.) What kind of disclaimer (?) should I use - I mean text I should
3.) Is it allowed to repack NetRexxR.zip - unpack - zip with compression
- *.jar ?
4.) If 3. is not allowed - could IBM release such a file?
5.) If not 3. and 4. - why (there can be good reasons for that, but I'm
not good enough to judge that.
I'm not a legal expert, but the intent is that yes it's OK to
NetRexxR.zip so long as you continue to include the original license.
Can't see why repackage would be a problem, also so long as that license
there. (I don't use compressed, yet, as that requires Java 1.1.2.)
As usual, ask your own legal expert if worried. And of course all on yr
own risk :-)

this time from Trier, Germany (near Luxembourg) calling,
we are using NetRexx in several custom-specific programs, e.g.:
- an industrial controlling interface program printing barcodes on the produced
material, and controlling economical processes on SAP R/3 and an old AS/400 Sales
system. Done with RMI, it consolidates different positions of the production
process to gather all information from a Simatic S5 System and getting all
relevant information together to several (Swing-GUI) Client program which show the
- an intranet web search engine,
- an intranet web server, multi-domain capable, with servlet engine,
- RMI remote shell/remote compiling engine for development purposes (remote make
is in progress, for big projects),
- invoice-system for ISP.
Thanks to Mike for this nice programming language. I really love it.
Mike, by the way, did you ever thought about an AOP-development expansion for
NetRexx? Would be nice. Working on projects which are getting bigger and bigger,
it would be nice to seperate aspects from the program... everything done in nice,
readable syntax as it is your way to do it...
