In this case, your schoolboy is wrong -- the byte datatype in Java is
signed; that is byte values go from -128 to +127, not 0 to 255.
The good news is that NetRexx now provides a way you can express what
you want directly in hex:
foo = [byte 2x88, 2x89] -- and so on.
